The last August week is also the last one for our regular column Top Sales of the Week. We will focus our Blog articles more on what is happening around Auctomobile, special stories, classic and special cars events. But we will still present interesting auction results or battles from time to time. Our main focus will be now to bring more cars for sale and to have auctions regularly every working day!
The last pick of the week comes from one of our most favorite brands, the French Delahaye. We love the Art Deco styling of the 30’s that made the French design school so famous.
This 1949 Delahaye 175 comes from the early post-war years, it is one of 46 to 50 examples built between 1948 and 1951. Configured in left-hand drive (only 10 were built as LHD), it was originally bodied by Figoni et Falaschi as a sunroof coupe for its first owner, the Maharaja of Mysore in India.
In 1980 the car was purchased by Sir Elton John, who is said to have owned it until 1983. The coachwork was converted into a cabriolet configuration in the UK during the late 1980s, and after returning to the US the vehicle joined the Petersen Automotive Museum collection in 2001. Although converted into three position cabriolet, it was done very decently to safe the Figoni et Falaschi coachwork styling.
The last type 175 was auctioned already 7 years ago and went for over half million USD. This car was converted, but has a great history, so the result of 355.000 USD including premium is a great price to value that nominated this special car to our last Top Sale of the Week. (auction link)
